Bash PMI? How About Thanks?
People seem to think that the Project Management Institute is all about pushing burdensome, plan-driven, pre-codified approaches. Quite the contrary, PMI provides the worldwide platform, leadership and knowledge to help the community figure out what works, and it was on display in the person of PMI president Mark Langley at a recent event.
I recently had the opportunity to hear the new president and CEO of the Project Management Institute, Mark Langley, participate in a distinguished panel discussion and speak to hundreds of CIOs and PMO executives at the Gartner PPM and IT Governance Summit 2011 held in San Diego. I had heard Langley speak once before, a year ago at the same Gartner event, and was so impressed that I made a point to get a front row seat this time. I wasn’t disappointed.
In response to a question to the panel about what’s next in terms of the change ahead and how today’s IT and PMO executives must respond to an increasingly complex global economy and rapidly changing technologies, a few of the panelist offered their views on what has now become the “new normal” and the actions that must be taken in order to survive these new, perilous unchartered waters.
