The Importance of Consistent Studying
Ask a few people whether they think that preparing for and passing the Project Management Professional exam will actually make someone a better project manager, and most of them will tell you that they think not. However, if you believe that that by studying for the exam you are not just studying but also working to improve your project management skills, then you will improve your skills.
IT Project Management Consultant Peter Dakessian became a project manager by accident, but firmly believes that the PMP exam can help you improve your skills overall.
“I come from an IT background,” he said. “I really wanted to get the business side as well. Because a lot of times, business and IT don’t really match well. It’s really hard for a lot of business people to understand IT and really hard for a lot of IT people to understand business. So I wanted to be that bridge.”
Peter liked the idea of the exam as the way to become the bridge between IT and the business. “I really, really loved what the Project Management Institute has done with the PMP,” he said. “First, it’s the most recognizable project management certification out there. Second, I knew that it was a very intense exam, so I wanted the challenge of that as well.”
Peter studied over a period of eight months, reading articles, books and forums
