The Mind: A Wonderful Thing to Map

Mike Donoghue is a member of a multinational information technology corporation where he collaborates on the communications guidelines and customer relationship strategies affecting the interactions with internal and external clients. He has analyzed, defined, designed and overseen processes for various engagements including product usability and customer satisfaction, best practice enterprise standardization, relationship/branding structures, and distribution effectiveness and direction. How much time do you spend on organizing a project?

To keep track of all the complex tasks required in hardware and software development, we often find ourselves using an equally complex project management method, software or system. It can be especially frustrating for PMs who, after spending a lot of effort in setting something up, soon realize afterward that it is too complicated a process for team members to update their status. This is even more frustrating when you recognize that the time utilized for managing the project takes longer than it does to do the work.

The follow-up question then becomes, just how difficult should this process be?
