Generating More Green through Green
The growth of portfolio management in the last few years has driven a lot more strategic considerations into the realm of project management. PMs are now being asked to think about the business impacts of their project execution decisions, and that is requiring them to develop much more business acumen than was previously expected of the role. It therefore follows (at least to me) that PMs should concern themselves with the same issues that are concerning executives--they may be acting at a more tactical level, but the priorities should align.
One of the areas where organizations are spending increasing amounts of their time is sustainability and environmental concerns. Part of that is mandated by a desire to be seen as good corporate citizens, but increasingly it is also because they recognize the strategic need to address those areas. In this article, I want to explore how sustainability is driving organizational strategy and consider how that will increasingly drive changes in the way that projects are executed.
