Technology Enabling the Business Strategy
No matter what size the organization (large or small), new and emerging technologies--when properly applied--bring intangible and tangible benefits. They also enable an organization to meet the growing demands of stakeholders.
It is difficult to find another time in the history of the modern world where technology is so important to an organization’s success. While speaking recently, an old cartoon came to mind. In that cartoon, an IT supervisor walked into a room of programmers and said, “Ok start coding, I will go and see what they want.”
Today, it is more likely that non-IT managers are looking at what a new technology can do for them. In fact, this has grown to the point where more and more of these non-IT managers are taking action and making technology decisions without involving the IT department.
Competitive challenges, operational efficiencies and other issues have executives concerned. Those concerns are translated into actions that push changes necessary for a timely response to technology evolution. That is why some organizations are devoting so much effort to establishing and maintaining a technology strategy.
