Rolling with Interrelating Project Roles
It is no surprise that a successful implementation of an IT project highly depends on the appropriate creation of well-defined roles within it. While project managers take the most significant role in the implementation of a project (being ultimately responsible for the successful delivery of it within the known constraints of schedule, budget, scope, quality, resources and risk), business analysts (BAs)take an important role in aspects of the project such as the following:
- Industry analysis
- Planning the project
- Controlling project activities
- Requirements elicitation and analysis
- Communications
- Relationship management with stakeholders
- Evaluation and validation of the solution
There is another highly influential role in the implementation of a project, which is the role of the subject matter expert, or SME. As a resource that is able to bring a business knowledge insight into the project, project teams have realized that through a close and direct interaction with SMEs, team members like PMs, analysts and even developers are obtaining high levels of efficiency and value added, through the timely and straightforward sharing of information.
