I spend a lot of time speaking and writing about some of the changes that are happening in project execution, and how those changes are impacting project managers. In this innovation-themed article, I wanted to take a slightly different approach--I wanted to try and be innovative myself and look at how project managers could become drivers of the future of project execution rather than consumers of change driven by others.

The result may be a little “out there,”, but I’m okay with that--it’s the result of my attempts to be innovative. I always enjoy reading your comments, but this time I really want to know what you think--I want to see if we can start the movement to change the future!

Where are we at?
If we are going to start defining our own future, then we had better understand where we currently are. In my opinion, project management is currently undergoing a fairly significant shift, and regular readers of my articles will recognize it. PMs have to become much more business focused, managing less around deliverables and more around benefits--ensuring their projects contribute to the organization’s goals and objectives.
