It is difficult to go online and read some new site without seeing multiple articles about the commercialization of emerging technologies and the value and benefits they will bring. Hot areas of technology include wearable technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), the connected vehicle and multiple other technologies associated and supporting these three.

Collectively, these areas of technology will create tens of billions of devices and systems connected to the internet--and all generating data. One estimate puts the number of internet-connected things (devices, systems and sensors) at 200 billion by 2020, and that is less than four-and-a-half years away. A second study notes that the wearable computing device market is expected to see a 36%+ compound annual growth rate (CAGR) between now and 2020. One has to conclude that we are in for an era of rapid technological change that will have a profound impact on all of us.

Considering that era of technological advancement, stop for a moment and think about all the data that will be produced. Forget big data: we are moving beyond that to huge data!
