Hiring good employees is a puzzle with its own twists and turns, but once you have a good employee in your organization or on your project team, it’s just as difficult to keep that employee on board and engaged with the work and project that the organization is engaged in.

While every organization and management team have differing policies regarding employees, there are still many things that the project manager can do to help retain talent for their project. Some project team members enjoy working insane hours with unrealistic deadlines, but many team members have different expectations regarding their engagement on the project.

Opportunities
One of the very best things you can do to help retain people is to provide them with opportunities to grow. If someone on the team is standing out and doing an excellent job, then it is past time to give them more challenging work. It is important to not just pile on more work to such an employee. Instead, you should seek out work that is more difficult or more suited to the caliber of work they are capable of. Giving someone more or better opportunities gives them a chance to show off what they can do, and could also give the project a boost.
