Team Health: The Pulse of Team Management (Part 5)--Auscultation
Drawing a parallel between clinical medicine and project management, the first part of Team Health: The Pulse of Team Management was to introduce the concept of team health and the applicability of the physical exam technique to team management. Part 2 looked at the first of four techniques (inspection), while Part 3 covered palpation. and Part 4 looked at percussion.
The first step toward effective disease management is, of course, a correct diagnosis. For a project manager, it is important to diagnose and evaluate problems related to the team. Team Health framework (Appendix A) is a tool that can serve as a vital asset to help the project managers deliver consistent good results regardless of the risks and adverse conditions.

Auscultation
One of the most popular and "glamorous" parts of the physical exam in clinical medicine--and perhaps the one to impart an identity to a physician--is auscultation. In fact, more often than not, it’s the only PE technique that is done on the patient! Auscultation refers to listening to the internal sounds of the body (produced by heart, lungs, air in the abdomen or blood vessels, etc.) with the help of a stethoscope (a tool).
