Impacting Your Teams
Organizations conduct projects, but people do the work. The team of people working on the project are the most valuable part of any organization; without that skilled team of resources available to work, no project will get very far.
The project manager may have to spend a lot of time dealing with the requirements of the organizations involved in a project, but if they do not also spend time taking care of the people working on the project, the end result may be a disaster. The project manager has the opportunity to make a positive impact on the people working on the project.
Getting to Know Your Team
One of the first impacts you can have on the project team is simply getting to know them. For some large teams, you may not be able to know everyone, but it is important to get out and find out who is working on the project. This seems like a simple thing, but its affect to the team can be enormous. Knowing the people on the team will give you a much better insight into how the team is performing and what kinds of problems are cropping up. Being close to the action, so to speak, will help you have a better understanding of what you can do to help and assist in a positive way during the project.
