The Impact of Digital on Your PM Job
Digital technology has changed the world over the past 30 years or so, and it’s still going! Project management has grown into a specialty and profession unto itself over the past 20 years. These two mega-trends clearly intersect somewhere, and some may even think there is a new specialty called “digital project management.”
Digital Project Management
First, I don’t really think that digital project management is particularly a specialty within the project management field. Since both digital technology and project management are each such broad fields, I don’t think there is enough to define a “digital project manager.” Instead, I have a different take on what “digital project management” is all about.
To explore that a little further, think about how some other professions have evolved as digital technology has evolved. Here are just a few examples:
- Digital photographer – Photography has been around as a profession for a long time. I’ve seen pictures from as far back as the mid-1800s. The core skills of a photographer—capturing the right image, perspective, lighting and subject matter—remain roughly the same.
