Challenges in Organizational PM
We all know that the sole purpose of organizations is to create value by delivering the strategic vision in line with available resources, capital investments and stipulated timelines. The overall strategic vision is created, planned for execution and then disintegrated into projects of organizational priority so that we meet our plans and exceed the expectations of all stakeholders. Some organizations excel in doing this, and some struggle.
In this article, I will bring into focus some of the key challenges that can discourage, negatively impact or hamper the progress of organizational project management as a whole or for a particular project of strategic priority.
What is Organizational Project Management?
As defined by PMI, organizational project management is “the systematic management of projects, programs and portfolios in alignment with the achievement of strategic goals. Its domains are project management, program management and portfolio management and it:
- Strengthens the link between strategic planning and execution, so project outcomes are predictable, reliable, consistent and correlate with organizational success.
- Identifies the best practices that support the implementation of organizational strategy through successful projects.
- Identifies the specific capabilities that make up the best practices,
