Creating Lasting Value
The 2016 PMI PMO Symposium® has drawn to a close, and as in year’s past, I am glad to have some free time to reflect on the many valuable insights and wonderful networking opportunities that this event always delivers.
This year’s event opened on Sunday afternoon with a preview of a new learning concept called the Knowledge Hubs, which were integrated into the Knowledge and Networking Pavilion in the Ballroom of the spectacular Hotel del Coronado. Four concurrent Knowledge Hubs consisting of small, facilitated knowledge sharing groups focused on a variety of relevant topics and actionable insights. I had the privilege of leading one of these inaugural Knowledge Hub groups focused on “Lessons from the Trenches – Things I’d Do Differently in Setting Up & Advancing My PMO.”
Earlier this year, I transitioned from a 25-year career in healthcare to a new enterprise PMO role within the transportation industry. Having won the 2014 PMI PMO of the Year Award, I currently find myself starting over at the beginning establishing the Amtrak EPMO. The lively exchange of challenges and lessons learned, combined with tips and tricks contributed by the Hub participants, made this new learning format a huge success and a lot of fun.
