My Venture into Pro Bono Project Management
My employer contacted me to inquire if I would be interested in volunteering for a program in support of nonprofit organizations across the country; the effort would focus on project management skills. Over the last 25 years of my career, I have continually experienced growth into new opportunities, new technology, applications, infrastructure and a multitude of process improvements. I have always sought out the opportunity to venture into new areas—I find the learning experience enjoyable.
I do however, have to give credit and thanks to a few key individuals along the way who have shared their own experiences with me and have been willing to answer my two million questions. Well, not actually two million, but my inquisitive nature drives me to analyze and ask, “What if?” The willingness of others to share their knowledge has propelled me to exceed, and I believe in “paying it forward” in any way I can.
I have volunteered my time to different organizations, but never in my professional field. When I was approached, I wasn’t sure what to expect and what knowledge I would be sharing, but the initiative was appealing.
