Shadow Time: A Volunteer Success Story
Have you ever tried creating a fun project that meshes some of your favorite professional organizations you volunteer for with something you believe in? In 2014, I led a project and sought sponsorship from my employer BNY Mellon for a Women in Technology (WIT) initiative supporting a Junior Achievement Job Shadowing Day for 30 high school students from the Academy of Finance & Enterprise using PMI's Educational Foundation (PMIEF) Project Management Skills for Life curriculum.
The following observations came from the students:
“At BNY Mellon, I learned how to be a leader. I learned what project is, and how project management can be applied to everyday life. What I enjoyed the most about the trip was learning about the different aspects of project management and visiting the trading floor. I really enjoyed meeting such influential women!” — Priame (11th grade)
“I learned a very interesting fact at BNY Mellon: Women are becoming dominant in the field of technology. I learned the significance of project management and how it is a part of our daily lives. I learned a lot about the trading floor and its different sectors, which turned out to be my favorite part of the tour!” — Jaya 10th grade
