Visualizing Complexity
Looking at some programs and projects from just a few short years ago, compare and contrast those to the ones you are currently experiencing. You likely see growth in the complexity of the current initiatives.
It’s no wonder many program and project managers are experiencing challenges when they come face to face with these demanding complex situations. These challenges have spurred a fair amount of research in discovering ways to aid PMs when it comes to dealing with these issues. Much of this research has produced methods and techniques that are in use today and have formed the solid foundation for what is called data visualization software or applications.
Data visualization is a general term that refers to any technique that is employed in an effort to help individuals understand the meaning and or significance of data. In most cases, this is accomplished by or in conjunction with placing the data in a graphical context. This is accomplished through the use of correlations, patterns, trends and other methods that might highlight features that otherwise would go undetected in text-based representation.
