Now More Than Ever, You Need Your PMO
There are going to be a lot of articles written on ProjectManagement.com this month—and well beyond—about how to cope with and mitigate the impact of the current coronavirus pandemic. And I’m going to be writing some of those articles in the hope that they will help you deal with the challenges you’re currently facing.
But at the same time, I don’t want to ignore what comes next. This crisis is temporary; it will pass, and the focus will be on returning to “normal” life—albeit a life that likely will never be quite the same as we all come to grips with a better understanding of just how fragile what we think of as “normal” is.
For businesses, the focus will be on getting back to implementing their strategies. There will be a need to make some adjustments—changes in focus here, adjustments to timetables there. And let’s be honest—there will be analyses of potential opportunities to take advantage of competitors who have fared worse than we have. And all of that is going to result in a tremendous amount of change to current and planned projects…which puts a lot of pressure on the PMO.
And I believe it provides an opportunity for PMOs to truly demonstrate their worth. It’s a chance for organizations to leverage an effective PMO to deliver a faster—and better—recovery
