Adopting The Project Economy Mindset: Everyone is a Project Manager

Mike Donoghue is a member of a multinational information technology corporation where he collaborates on the communications guidelines and customer relationship strategies affecting the interactions with internal and external clients. He has analyzed, defined, designed and overseen processes for various engagements including product usability and customer satisfaction, best practice enterprise standardization, relationship/branding structures, and distribution effectiveness and direction. He has also established corporate library solutions to provide frameworks for sales, marketing, training, and support divisions.

When we adopt The Project Economy mindset, it helps us reduce the number of “high-minded” and idyllic projects while also focusing team energies on those tasks that are essential and not superfluous. What actually needs to be accomplished for the organization is more the project driving force—but so is finding the best method, personnel and resources to do so by taking what is in hand and using each component to its fullest extent.

While a project manager is the multi-faceted leader, coordinator, organizer and communications director of the team, there are aspects of the position that make it a necessity for each project member to have similar abilities and knowledge. They may not be able to practice all the techniques and skills of a project manager, but there are many elements they should adopt to both assist in the duties that need to be carried out and to make the project run more smoothly.

From start to finish, a project manager is responsible for leading a project and its team. They make sure that the desired results are delivered—and isn’t that pretty much what every team member strives to accomplish? However, what’s great about personal skill and the tools available is that substantial project management achievements can be made on an individual basis—and without massive amounts of training.
