The amount of change that organizations and individuals have had to deal with this year has been unprecedented. All of us have had to discover that we are actually far more resilient to disruption than we ever imagined, and we’ve all learned just what people can do when they are faced with unbelievable challenges.

But let’s be honest—we’re all starting to feel more than a little change fatigue. And that’s a problem because there is a lot more change ahead of us.

Our employers are going to need to invest in initiatives that help to deliver a recovery. We’re going to continue to need to make adjustments to various elements of our lives as we deal with the anticipated surge in the pandemic during the northern hemisphere winter. And we’re going to have to adapt to more changes as vaccines become available throughout 2021 and stability slowly begins to return.

As project managers, our organizations are relying on us to help deliver those changes—and to help the rest of the organization integrate them with their ways of working. We have to be at the forefront of an ongoing wave of change and transformation. That means we have to understand how to deal with our own change fatigue, and with it in the larger organization that our projects are impacting.
