With a new year beginning, we are full of hope, energy and expectations. This is also the time of the year to think of your next steps and resolutions. How would you like to develop yourself? How would you like to make an impact in the world?

We have found growth and development through volunteering. As first-time volunteers, we’ve faced some obstacles. We’ve made some wrong assumptions (like that volunteering is easy). However, our passion for sharing and learning have kept us motivated. Through volunteering, we’ve unexpectedly discovered a way to grow professionally, practice and experiment. The first step was not easy: We had several questions and doubts like you may have. Let’s review them together…

1. Should volunteering only be linked to project management? Not necessarily. You can serve food in a soup kitchen, you can record texts for impaired people, or teach sports to kids. Even helping out with the smallest tasks can make a real difference to the lives of people, animals and organizations. At PMI, we work in teams most of the time and then we can practice our super power skills.

2. How can I find a PMI opportunity? You have to go to Volunteer Relationship Management System (VRMS) and filter by the Chapter you’d like to contribute to. This is not the only way, as sometimes VRMS is not necessarily used depending on the …
