7 Questions You Need To Ask Yourself About Digital Ethics
As project managers, we face ethical questions and dilemmas regularly. There are familiar challenges like making procurement decisions or treating project team members with respect. While these problems continue to be present, a new generation of problems has arrived, and these problems require a new approach—digital ethics.
Why Bother With Digital Ethics?
There are a few reasons why digital ethics matter to today’s project managers. Many project managers spend much or all of their time working on digital initiatives. These efforts involve ethical questions in several ways—which we may not always identify.
Failing to engage with these questions means passively agreeing with the status quo of digital technology. Passive, unthinking engagement with such questions is a recipe for facing even more dilemmas in the future.
At the same time, I know that project managers are business professionals. We don’t necessarily have the time or capacity to exhaustively examine these issues like philosophers, theologians or judges. In essence, we need a “fit for purpose” manner of addressing digital ethics questions on our projects.
