Topic Teasers Vol. 155: How to Utilize the PMI Talent Triangle®
I’m a very busy certified project manager, and I try to make sure I’m doing all the things I should do to keep my certification intact. I was able to adjust when PMI introduced a Talent Triangle® and I had to get training in each side of the illustration. But I now hear that they have a new one from 2022 with different names to the sides. How should I adjust the way I choose my training and report my PDUs for my PMP® and other certifications?
A. The new triangle is identical to the old; there is just a rephrasing of the names of the sides. You can continue to submit your PDUs with the same breakdown as you have in the past and it will be fine.
B. Since the sides of the triangle change frequently, the best approach is to wait until the last three months before your recertification is due to post any training you have taken. That way you can recategorize your learning with the latest and greatest required headings.
C. The triangle is divided by industry, so depending on the types of things your organization does (i.e., manufacturing, computers, marketing, construction, etc.), you will report all of your training categorized to the side that included the types of projects you do on a daily basis.
