I have spoken with many project managers recently, and artificial intelligence is a recurring topic. Along with the advancements and efficiencies it brings, AI also raises some concerns. In this article, I will explore how AI is reshaping project management—and how project managers can make the most of this changing landscape.
Project Manager Relevance in an AI Environment
In an AI environment, project manager uneasiness arises from various factors. On one hand, there's the concern that AI will replace us, or at least take over some of our tasks. (According to a recent article from the BBC, AI is expected to replace approximately 300 million jobs in the near future.)
Additionally, Gartner's 2019 survey reports that 80% of today's project management tasks could be automated by 2030. You might have already noticed this transformation in your own daily work, as tools like Bard, ChatGPT and ClickUp AI can now complete tasks that used to take weeks (or even months) in a matter of seconds. There is no doubt that this is a major game-changer in progress.
Conversely, a more business-oriented concern is emerging around the perception of potential professional obsolescence.
