4 Ways to Reinvent Your PM Skills

If you are like me, you are still thinking about how you can grow in 2024. You might have ideas for things you want to study and projects you’d like to work on.

One thing I like to think about as I head into a new year is how I want to reinvent or change myself professionally in the next 12 months to keep up and grow.

So, this month I want to take a few moments to offer you some ideas for ways that you can reinvent your PM skills in this new year.

1. Go outside your silo. Let’s start with an easy suggestion: Look for different places of inspiration.

I’ve spent a lot of time over the years in sports and entertainment. One huge challenge is a lack of ideas filtering into the industry from outside the world of sports and entertainment. If I had to guess, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of industries lobbied the same accusations at their own industry.

The reason I hit on this idea first is because the best ideas can come from anywhere. I find myself stealing marketing ideas from SaaS companies. I find myself stealing branding ideas from Asia. And I find myself getting project management column inspiration from others.

The key is to look around and see something that you like (or see as working) and ask yourself how you can apply it to your situation.

That’s all getting out of your silo needs to entail.
