Where Should You Use Artificial Intelligence?

Some organizations are already developing policies and guidelines around the use of artificial intelligence in the workplace. Some are even looking at specific project-related scenarios. But few, if any, have mature frameworks in place that won’t have to adapt and evolve as a result of expanded use of AI technologies and the advancement of the technology itself. As a result, those interested in ensuring that AI can be leveraged effectively without compromising the organization have an opportunity to influence their employer.

Specifically in project environments—and thinking simply in terms of tools like PMI Infinity and ChatGPT that are applicable to broad use cases rather than narrow specific scenarios—where should project professionals be pushing for its use? What limitations should be placed on it? How should it be monitored and managed? That’s something that I believe all of us should have ideas about.

Look for the easy wins
I think it starts with the simple stuff—things that will deliver some benefits, even if only limited, but that won’t cause leadership to become concerned (or expose the organization to undue risk). It also likely means avoiding any tool that would need to leverage internal data—that would require setup and configuration, and may well require contract commitments, IT support, and work to supplement, …
