Does anyone know what is the rationale behind removing the 7 Quality Tools from Plan Quality Process in the latest PMBOK V.06 ?

Those are very important tools so I wonder why they were removed.

According to the Project Quality Management Changes on p646 (X1.16 Section 8), they are saying that research has shown that a lot of the quality tools and techniques are not being used in projects, and the focus is more on managing the quality.

The reduced coverage of quality in the PMBOK Guide is a sad commentary on the decline of quality practices in project management. I understand that the PMBOK's stated scope excludes best practices that are not commonly used, so I understand why they have chosen to remove it. However, I still see these and other quality practices as valuable even though they are not in the PMBOK. Is PMI doing anything to promote quality to counter this drop in quality practices within the industry?

Quality tools are essentials for improving quality, so they should not be removed. I am yet to see new edition, have to check that.

For now, I keep using v5!

more comment I read about PMBOK rev6 less I think it is a good revision!!! removing reference to many tools is not a positive direction I think. It is less a reference material.

Rami, I agree with you that it was combined under 7QC but they have not been eliminated they are still talking about it if you look at page 332,8.2.2.4 they have listed cause and effect diagram ( Ishikawa) Flow chart, Scatter diagram, Histogram and on page 314 talking about continual improvement like PDCA TQM six sigma and LEAN six sigma if the student want to explore on those topic then must read extra books just like any other topic for example SIPOC Model is mentioned in the PMBOK but does not cover every thing we need to know like motivational theories we need to explore out of the guide to be aware of all theories in the market,
However it is a good question making motivation to re visit the 6th V :-)
