Is there any connection between MBA studies and PMP studies. Is it recommendable? what are benefits? how these co-relate and how these differs? Saving Changes...
That is true about the rarity of both together being job requirements, however, remember that job ads state the minimum requirements. Having additional qualifications beyond the minimum would set you ahead of others who only meet minimum.
Granted, I think the MBA is the all-around great qualification to have in almost any management job. Saving Changes...

PMP will prepare in the domain of Project/Program Management (and as rightly mentioned) with focus on Tools and processes.
MBA on the other hand will prepare for growth in Management/ Leadership type of roles in various fields based in the specialization opted.
Some Institutions provide MBA with specialization in Project Management. Saving Changes...

Asif, they might be connected, depending on your personal career development. The PMP is a professional certification that verifies your work experience and applied skills. The MBA is a post graduate college degree that proclaims your broad knowledge in business administration. The MBA program will have courses in various aspects of business management including finance, marketing, human resources, economics, organizational leadership, operations, apply chain, accounting, and more - of course all of these are a part of project management in some way at some time so it is good knowledge to have. If the program you choose also has a project management fundamentals or introduction course, that could count towards you education requirement for the PMP. The MBA typically takes about two years to complete and is much more of a financial commitment; some employers offer tuition reimbursement for college studies. Once you receive your degree it is there always; with the PMP credential, you must maintain it with continuing education and service. Depending on your current employment and your future plans, either are tremendous qualifications and together they would be vey strong.
I agree to a larger extent with you,Sandra. After getting a PMP and having quite a bit experience in Project Management, i had a feeling that i am limiting myself to a particular field and it will not be much helpful in further career advancement to higher management roles.
Now i am almost half way to my MBA degree and i confirm that MBA surely can broaden one's vision of Business Management and financials.Which can be very much helpful in further strengthening your skills as a Project Manager. Although, one can argue that these two are different, but having both qualifications, you feel much more confident in understanding real life business challenges as well as Project Management challenges in a broader perspective. I received my MBA with a concentration in IT Project Management. Like Alesia said the information provided was helpful. Saving Changes...
There is absolutely no reason why project managers need an MBA. MBA is for people that aspire to be CEOs or want to become consultants in the top 4 firms. Don't waste your money buying useless qualifications!

Of course the next step on a Project Management path are Program Management or/ and Portfolio Management, and trust me MBA gives some key additional skills to cope with challenges at such higher levels of decision making, Project investment dynamics and business management.

Like many others have shared, I don't see a direct connection between the PMP and MBA, unless the MSA has a concentration in project management. I have both the MBA (w/ concentration in New Venture Mgt.) and PMP, along with a B.S & M.S. in Computer Science.
I pursued the MBA so I would have a business degree (and experience) to supplement my technical degrees and experience. A business and technical acumen, if you will. Also, as others have shared, it depends on your career pursuit. Saving Changes...

Agree that MBA gives skills. But those skills can be acquired via short training sessions sponsored by employers. Given the expense of MBA in US, not sure it is really worth doing an MBA if one aspires to continue to be a Program/Portfolio Manager.

MBA is a broad understanding of Business. However PMP is more about Project Management. However, my experience says Project manager needs to have some understanding of business to perform better. The experience can be with or without MBA.
I would recommend both as nowadays companies require people with more no of certificates and degrees. Saving Changes...

I am doing MBA (in General Management) & PMP in parallel, there was no such similarity in the subject content, except there was a subject in MBA Module - 2 i.e. ''Project & Operation Management'' it has some correspondence with PMP. Saving Changes...
