I know that it is not good to "burn bridges", but haven't there been times that you wanted to plant some dynamite and blow that bridge sky high? Saving Changes...

Yes. I try to avoid the urge though.
I think it is unavoidable to get through life and not burn some bridges (I am speaking of more than just employer/employee relationships here).

Oh, in my non-professional life I have set many a bridge on fire.
Professional life not so much. I have actually tried to burn a bridge or two and failed. :) People have tested my patience and failed, I snapped, and they thought I was great. Or I refuse to work with someone and every time they pass me in the hall it is like we are best friends. I guess I am just not good about being bad.

It's hilarious when you try to burn and bridge and people somehow draw closer to you, isn't it?
Burning professional bridges is doable, but only if you first carefully consider how connected the person is and the likelihood their negative opinion can affect you in the future.

burning bridges is in the eye of the beholder. I've made some moves which I felt were very subtle which were perceived as major bridge burning and had worries about doing something disruptive but was surprised at the lack of churn...

Well the urge is there. However, I try not to burn bridges. Saving Changes...
Maybe just burn a rope on the bridge would send a message :-) Saving Changes...

I look to always avoid it. No real value and not professional. Simply by taking action and being successful speaks loud enough. Then strutting away happy, excited, with more $, etc. is the moment to revel in. Saving Changes...

Never burned any bridges. Even if the employer or supervisor were hell to put up with, the resignation letter should give off a "perhaps our paths will cross again the future" flavor. Saving Changes...
