Why doesn't PMI have an "Associate" certification for Agile, BA, RMP etc? Yes project management (PMP) is their main bread and butter, so I get they want to capture a larger crowd by making the CAPM certification. I am all for the CAPM by the way, but isn't the CAPM like the interim belt without really having the real belt?

Agree with Girija
I've 10 years of Business Analyst missions on IT projects, seen many project methodologies, followed processes all along, made reportings.
I'm working on the CAPM because I don't have these 4500 hours of "official" PM experience and I think this certification is going to help me signing PM jobs/missions in order to collect these missing hours for PMP (which is the goal).

Thats not fair for people who already put the money and effort to take those certifications.
Rami -

it has nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with financial viability. PMI does have a financial responsibility to its members so having certifications which are consistently losing money shouldn't be encouraged.

Sante,

I think CAPM should be review. It is a nice entry level. I would see it like junior PMP. Where you have the knowledge but not the experience. Not half the knowledge of PMP. What I mean is the exam should be the full PMP exam, but since the experience is not there PMP junior. Once the experience is acquire and confirm get a PMP.

Fair point Vincent. I don't think the CAPM is going anyway, and I do like to prod sleeping bears occasionally to get the brain engaged.

PMI certifications may consider the 'flattening' effect short-cuts can have on PMP and the BOK as new methodologies build on key practice areas.
