Why doesn't PMI have an "Associate" certification for Agile, BA, RMP etc? Yes project management (PMP) is their main bread and butter, so I get they want to capture a larger crowd by making the CAPM certification. I am all for the CAPM by the way, but isn't the CAPM like the interim belt without really having the real belt? Saving Changes...

While it might not provide much of a career or compensation boost, it is useful for those who have little or no PM experience to demonstrate their interest and commitment to the profession.
If there was to be a culling, I'd see some of the knowledge-area focused certs going away before the CAPM...

it has nothing to do with fairness and everything to do with financial viability. PMI does have a financial responsibility to its members so having certifications which are consistently losing money shouldn't be encouraged.
NO, why should they? when so many people still looking for it, those who don't have enough hours to go for higher one it is good for them something is better than nothing. Saving Changes...

I don't think so, the PMP is a basic one, and some people haven't experience, and they can apply the fundamental of project management, which is CAPM.
After PMP, you have a strong experience and knowledge of project management and you can apply other certificates!!!
CAPM is an interim belt which is like a stepping stone for many Junior PMs and Leads without actual PM experience to achieve a PMI certification. Internal Project Management certifications and trainings of many organisations are based & aligned on CAPM which actually helps the management to groom people on PM skills. Saving Changes...
