Like PMI has already included Agile practices in latest editions of PMBOK, PMI can make Lean & Six Sigma inclusions in PMI's existing certifications due to the growing needs of Lean & Six Sigma practitioners rather than having separate certifications on Six Sigma. Saving Changes...
Creating a new certification on top of PMP, based on knowledge areas or process groups high level certifications would be a great addition for motivating PMs to keep working on their knowledge after PMP (even if PDUs are already on purpose).
Anyway, i don't know what could be the content of these high level certifications... Saving Changes...

PMI has the PgMP and PfMP.
While certainly an interesting idea, I don't necessarily see the market demand. Saving Changes...
I like a belt-based approach but would prefer to go with a more granular model like true martial arts vs. the LSS approach.
That way, you could have a 4th dan black belt PM :-)
The challenge is ensuring objectivity in the assessment process - it would be pretty difficult to scale it to the number of certified practitioners out there...

Would this mean that a practitioner should acquire the CAPM first and then on to the others? Also, if the credentials are "stack-able" would this mean a skilled PgMP would need to go back to take other exams? Saving Changes...

I woukd agree with Kiron on this. I do not believe doing so for PMP Certification is a good idea because the PMP is inclusive of all KA’s and if you want to go to the next level you can do PgMP and then PfMP so I would called those probably the Green and Black Belts. Saving Changes...
Although I have some knowledge/training about the belts...I don't think that it will fit in the PMI organization...also there are PM's that are "world champions" imagine that now we'll have a variety of colors...pink, purple, blueish... blow minded each time that I'll check LinkedIn :) Saving Changes...

I do not like the belt system because it is not descriptive of what is involved in the certification. What does Green Belt actually mean? I am fine with keeping PMI as it is. Saving Changes...
