Wasim Shaikh Senior Project Manager| Coditas India
Hi,
I have been working as a part of IT PMO for around 9 years now. I have worked on resource management, demand management and training management processes so far. I wanted to explore about moving into core project management roles. Project management being a vast area, I am thinking about specializing into knowledge areas of project management step by step. I also realized that other domains(except IT project management) knowledge is also a big plus.
What do experts suggest for me? How should I expand my knowledge and expertise and how do I choose which knowledge area I should consider.

Thanks,
Wasim.

Hi Wasim, considering what are you doing in IT, I would consider PMI ACP straight away and then scrum. Capitalise on your experience in IT companies, you are in the right domain.

I agree with Kevin and CAPM or PMP would be a good certification as well.

there are all kinds of options open to specialize in the PM domain, but what interests YOU?

Once you have the answer to that question, you can focus your efforts there...

Hi Kiron,
You are absolutely right of it. At the end of the day, what YOU like makes all the difference.
I was looking for specializing planning, scheduling and change management but thought of also get to know what the experts would advise.

Thanks a lot for your reply.
