I was listening to an interview lately, and the host said this "granted, PMP helps on a professional level, but how does it help beyond that if at all?" How would you respond if you were in the guest's place?

I will disagree (professionally, of course) with my virtual colleagues. The PMP, in and of itself, is purely of value for your career. Project management education, on the other hand, helps in many ways. If the only project management education you have was in pursuit of the PMP, then it's the education, and not the PMP itself which is helping...

Let me give a different scenario then. When I met my boyfriend we found out that we were both PMPs which increased the attraction. :)

Dinah -

Wow - that's a great example which I'll re-use whenever someone asks me this question!

Of course, with the ever increasing number of PMPs, soon it might be a case of someone NOT having a PMP making them a good match for someone with a PMP as the former might be dwarfed by the latter :-)

Kiron-

Thanks for providing a different take on this. Although I would assume that in most cases project management education stems from the pursuit of the PMP among other things.

Farouq,

Knowledge in project management help in life in general. You better manage various projects at home like home improvement or wedding for example.
You don't require the certification of PMP or PRINCE2.

Thank you for weighing in. I agree with you and would add that the feelings of accomplishment and self fulfillment make this a pleasant part of one's personal life.

Everything we do is a project, so I use project management in everything I do, from planning my morning routine and daily tasks to planning events at my home and vacations. I have a personal copy of Microsoft Project that I use constantly.

I do the same, but I use a tool called airtable instead of MS Project (think it's more agile than MS Project by design).

Project Management YES indeed, not necessary pmp certificate.
All our life is about projects the more you get it right the better you achieve your deliverables.

Granted Kiron, but the question was "does it help" not "is it necessary" ;-)
