Think it depends on what you want to achieve.
I use Hofstede all the time, for the benefit of creating awareness about cultural differences of people from different nations. Its good for that as he has the largest database (though contended).
If that is not your problem, you might strive to improve teaming and collaboration, and then many tools are on the market. As a starter I like tribal leadership by Logan, it has 5 levels and easy ways to find out where you are.
As a next step, you might then look at the organizational values and beliefs, which drive behaviors (you might have a values statement, or a Code of Ethics) and find out via a survey how well they resonate with the people. The gaps will tell you where to find corrective actions.
As a proactive action, you can define a team charter, best with the team, to agree on basic behaviors in your project, regardless what the behaviors are in the organization. This would create the base for a project culture (and has to be build thru mantras, symbols, mascots, etc.).
