PM Metrics for Measuring Performance

Any suggestions on metrics useful for tracking/monitoring PM performance? We're a newly formed team and will be implementing metrics to track/monitor/improve our PM performance. What has worked well for your organization? Thanks in advance!

Well, that is hard to say, it depends on what you want to measure or your goals.

Are you referring to the performance of the PM or monitoring project performance? If the former, then you could look at a combination of quantitative metrics (e.g. on time, on budget) with some subjective ones (e.g. customer/sponsor satisfaction survey, team satisfaction survey).

For a PM you could use 360 degree feedbacks, satisfaction surveys etc. But for projects, any metrics used for performance not only reflect the project, but the PM also.

Assuming you re referring to Project Managers, here s some examples
1. average time to market/project or per stream - set a target and see how you re doing ; 2. go live term - target is to have 0 (or max 2 weeks) deviation from the last baseline ;
3. critical path milestones - target to have 90% of the milestones accomplished
