Does anybody have a brilliant idea on how to store, classify and make them FRUITFULLY SEARCHABLE, when the Lessons Learned documents are completed?

It is clear that in most of the companies we have quite an amount of good stuff that we learned on the way, the thing is that it's extremely difficult to search for the type of project you're looking for. Sometimes seems to be more helpful to interview colleagues, that could drive you to someone else, that you have not met yet, that made a similar project in the past.....

If you have a decent suggestion, please share, thanks in advance.

In my personal experience, I have obtained expected results and benefits when we consider it as an item inside a knowledge management system (where system is not software system).

What is that then, if not a SW based thing? Tons of paper?

Just curiosity.

We have a central repository for all projects including their documents which includes their lessons learned. The repository is fully searchable by various data fields. The issue is that no one was using the lessons learned - PMs ALWAYS think that they are smarter than their predecessors/ peers. To address that issue, we now have a champion within the organization that will institutionalize the lessons learned into lessons implemented.

Did you insert any "tagging methodology" in order to improve the search? And, if so, who did establish the tags for each document?

I'm just trying to steal your experience, indeed.

Pier -

you might want to watch my on-demand webinar from April or May of this year on the LL topic - I've shared some of my thoughts on how to get more value from this poorly implemented practice.

"This planet has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy."
