Has anyone found Metaplan Cards effective for project meetings? I've recently discovered using them but have yet to use them for projects. I'm curious to know about anyone else's experience in PM.

Hi Rajash, Metaplan is essentially Affinity Diagramming but a little more structured. It uses materials like pin boards, variously colored pieces of papers in various shapes that correspond to who is expressing an idea. For example a big white cloud-shaped paper is where the main question/problem is posted, white 3x5 cards are ideas, oblong cards are further explanations, circular cards are "sorting group" labels, etc. There are a bunch more rules like, participants only get to speak 30 secs maximum per turn; when adding an idea, all participants must simultaneously pin their cards on the board to ensure that no one will influence another, arguments and objections to ideas must also be expressed and recorded on the board; etc.

Yes, I've used it during brainstorming sessions while doing requirement & design discussions. But may be we haven't been calling it as "Metaplan Cards" technique. Ideas are collected on sticky notes, grouped and then voted for finding solutions. This is very useful for developing Affinity diagrams. Go ahead & use it for your projects !!
