When we think about communication, most of us think about spoken (verbal) or written communication. I wonder how important nonverbal communication is for you.

I consider nonverbal one of the most critical skills. Given the diversity of humanity; this skill presents a significant challenge. I have sat in teleconference meetings and I feel they didn't come across as productive given the lack of body language. I have observed body language between two groups of stakeholders and the animosity observed in the non-verbal realm gave me a reason to reassess my stakeholder management plan.

It's very important, but it doesn't need to be mastered. Understanding human motivation is key to successfully engaging stakeholders, and these cues are not always verbal.

Good point! Maybe learn how to use it would be good enough. What do you think?

Yes, absolutely, body language is important in communication. I do agree with Sante that mastery is not required, though, important to be cognizant of its importance and look for ways to enable its opportunity.

Just to add somehing, take into account it will depends on the culture of the zone of the world where you live. I have the opportunity to work with people of lot of countries around the world. Latin America people behave totally different than Asian people for example mainly related body language. And you can go to details related to each country.

Excellent point! Let me point out that there are certain body language topics which are cross cultural, for example "micro expressions".

On the lighter side you'll need to read the body language that says we need a bathroom break, it's time for lunch, I need coffee and the all important please change the subject.

As any other communication method, body language is also a "two way channel".

Great point Rami! As far as I know according to research it ranges from 60 (conservative) to 93%! (obviously it depends on the context), but still, those are pretty huge numbers!
