Hi there!

I'm currently a certified ACP and am looking to obtain my CAPM. My company is currently doing an analysis into the agile transformation, but are still currently using traditional project management. Is there any guidance, or tips and tricks, that anyone has to help guide and steer me in the right direction? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Neil

I would skip the CAPM if agile is the future, look into the PMI-ACP (read the requirements and make sure you qualify)

I do already have the PMI-ACP. Are there other things I should look into?

Ah, the certified ACP went over my head :) lol

If you have the PMI-ACP you are in good shape.

Assuming you want to remain in the PM domain and not become a Scrum Master or Product Owner in the near term, I'd suggest pursuing the PMP if you meet the prerequisites. Even companies going through an agile transformation will still have some technology projects which are better delivered using deterministic approaches and having a solid grounding in those will increase your versatility.

Thank you for your reply. I still have quite a ways to go before I meet the requirements for the PMP. My goal is to head in the direction of Agile Coach. For the meantime, I'm currently in the PM world of IT. I was thinking that gaining another certification may help me while I'm working my way towards Agile Coach. Let me know your thoughts.

Neil,

Kiron's advise is a good one but since you do not qualify yet then CAPM is a good start or you can look at obtaining a Professional Scrum Master certification from scrum.org.

On the other hand, there is another good Agile certificate called AgilePM, administered by APMG.

If it was me, I would do the PMI-RMP as risk management is very important be it in the traditional or agile environments.

Good Luck !

Hi Rami,

Thank you for your message. I haven't heard of APMG, but I will definitely take a look.

I've also looked at the RMP, as that can be used almost anywhere. I just don't the risk management qualifications yet, but something I can look into more.

Thank you!

Basis your requirements and comments by the esteemed colleagues above, I would still recommend you pursue your CAPM. You can always take a call for PMP or other certifications later.
Good luck!!

They say the CAPM is a good stepping stone to the PMP so give it a go.
