Can Project Management be used, to solve some of the world's most important problems (such as: disaster recovery after hurricanes/floods etc, violence/crime, peace on earth, water supply, help elderly/disabled/ill, childcare, etc.)? Saving Changes...
I was a fan of this (what I call now) illusion when I was 20-something. Just yesterday I've encountered this quote by Isaiah Berlin:
“My talk … was intended to argue that the pursuit of a single, final, universal solution to human problems was a mirage. There are many ideals worth pursuing, some of them are incompatible with one another, but the idea of an all-embracing solution to all human problems which, if there is too much resistance to it, might need force to secure it, only tends to lead to bloodshed and the increase of human misery. … I believe that there is nothing more destructive of human lives than fanatical conviction about the perfect life*, allied to political or military power. Our century affords terrible evidence of this truth. I believe in working for a minimally decent society.”

Our blog provides tips to PMs who are interested in getting involved with organizations who are trying to solve world problems. The hope is we can use our skills to promote success in implementing solutions (as Kiron suggests above).
Take a read on the blog, reach out to Deanna (or any other members), and visit www.PMWB.org for more information and to volunteer to save world problems. Saving Changes...

Not only can project management be used to solve the world's problems, but it must be used. Many people like to conceptualize, and even legislate to create a framework to solve a problem. However, implementing a solution requires getting things done in real life, totally different than making a tweet, a blog, a plan, or a law. Saving Changes...

I don't know if project management can actually solve any of the world's problems, but we might be able to sell a certification and a 4-day seminar. Saving Changes...

The people , and the will to change can change the world, the project management is just a tool that can be used for the purpose as many other tools. Do you think a professional class can change the world?
