Hi, mostly from curiosity, I was wondering what does the influence score here on this site mean personally for you? Are you trying to reach the top because of being competitive, do you have other reasons or do you even care? Do you follow people with high score?

The influence score is simply an indicator of the amount of contribution you provide to this community. It's about quantity and recentness, nothing about quality or likes.

It's as meaningless or meaningful as any other social media score. It may mean nothing or it may be a appreciation of your contribution(s). For me meaningful influence is feedback from people that I know and I appreciate, not a number showing my presence on a social media platform. A significant presence it may just show that I have no life :)

It depends on how you use it. There are a lot of people who respond to a post saying "great post, thanks". It will increase certain categories.

To truly engage and learn, which I have, it seems to be a nice milestone to reach to push me to learn more - so its a personal motivational tool.

I could be wrong here but I don't think that your influence score goes up if you post more? I think you get more influence if your posts are "voted" on or if you share/create content. I've seen people with loads of posts that have a low influence score and yet others that seem to bring more insight having higher influence scores.

But I don't know! I've not seen the algorithm! :)
Hi, Emily: This suggests that comments do count: https://www.projectmanagement.com/pages/286831/What-is-Influence-

And that content creation is most highly valued.

Influence and influence score are not the same thing - I suppose that is at the core of the question. Motivations aside, so long as the content is valuable, I'm game. Unfortunately, content quality can become diluted, as Rami highlights.

Thanks Alan! I agree with Andrew, it's the quality of the content that counts

I agree - I just wish there is more clarity on how infuence works. It is a very vague area.

As a relatively new user to the community site, Influence score (along with badges) is a fun way to help me start engaging all the facets the site has to offer. It’s encouraged me to connect with people, write responses/reviews, participate in topics, and ask questions. In the long run, I expect that the score will be a motivation to keep me active. Thank you all for your contributions.

Hi Jeremy, I thought the same, but then the algorithm inconsistencies drove me crazy ;-)

I think it's just an indicator to the quantity of contribution.

If that was true, Anish, your score would never go down.
