Hi, mostly from curiosity, I was wondering what does the influence score here on this site mean personally for you? Are you trying to reach the top because of being competitive, do you have other reasons or do you even care? Do you follow people with high score?

The influence score is just a number. I am learning a lot from the rich community of subject matter experts, and hope my humble contributions are okay. Will continue to work hard and provide more valuable thoughts.

I could be wrong here but I don't think that your influence score goes up if you post more? I think you get more influence if your posts are "voted" on or if you share/create content. I've seen people with loads of posts that have a low influence score and yet others that seem to bring more insight having higher influence scores.

But I don't know! I've not seen the algorithm! :)

I agree - I just wish there is more clarity on how infuence works. It is a very vague area.

Hi, Emily: This suggests that comments do count: https://www.projectmanagement.com/pages/286831/What-is-Influence-

And that content creation is most highly valued.

And yet this post may raise your influence Lenka ;-) Actually most high influence people sound like they don't really care, when in fact they chase the influence score themselves. How? Are we really to believe that each person is interested in every single thread, blog title, discussion question, article? No, and yet most of the high influence people have one thing in common: answering or responding to all or most of these questions, blogs, posts and articles, even when genuine interest isn't there. I guess with my influence currently at 86, you can include me in that list. Do I really have an interest in each thing I respond to? Nope! That is the trick of the influence system. People don't want to feel like they are slipping away. There was a stage when I was extremely active on this site, in fact the "most active" for several months in row, always posting questions and polls and answers daily. My influence never reached beyond 2-3 points higher than I am now, only now I am far less active, and save many hours per week (maybe 10-15 including the blog writing) to chase more important factors. I get their algorithm of making it harder to get points as you get higher, but I decided to get off this boat when I saw other people who contributed zero or very little over months, yet their score remained the same. That's an algorithm I won't subscribe to.

Thanks for your comments! I care about my influence score, it is rewarding and I guess that’s exactly why it’s here. It is an online environment engagement tool. I would guess someone developed a custom algorithm here but if you’re building a website nowadays there are plugins with automated influence calculation included, I see that a lot on other professional forums.
I don’t see anything bad at all at caring about a score but it is up to every individual how much time they want to invest in that. So thanks again for commenting on this!
What I value on this community most is that even if some comments may seem as “just following”, it is kept on very professional level and sticks to the purpose of this site.
