First would be understanding your own behavioral style such as a DISC assessment. Second would be developing your Emotional Intelligence, consciously and purposefully evaluating how you are reacting to and communicating with others, as well as evaluating how they are receiving and reacting to your input.

Leadership is the ability to lead a team and inspire them to achieve high performance. A project manager requires a wide range of leadership skills through all phases of the project life cycle. A project manager can develop strong leadership skills by applying them creatively to communicate vision and inspire stakeholders to support the work and outcomes of the project.

In my opinion leadership skills involve the ability to guide, motivate and direct the team.

With command and control mindset (will not cope everything) in my opinion.

However project managers can adapt some important of leadership styles:-

-servant leader
-Transactional
-Transformational
-Interactional
-Charismatic
-Laissez-faire

In summary there is different between a team management and team leadership.

Once you've completed a self-assesment and identified specific leadership areas you wish to work on, I'd look for a mentor who can guide you as you develop these skills. I'd also let trusted peers know so that they can provide you with candid feedback when they witness you either behavior or not behaving according to your "target operating state".

You would enhance leadership skills by letting go some of the command and control mindset :-)
