Project Management Plan and Project Execution Plan

Perhaps this will not answer your question but is the first time I heard about Project Execution Plan mainly inside the PMI. As far as I remember there is no line about that inside the PMBOK.

There is the term of Project Execution Plan (PEP) in PMBOK. In some of my clients, PEP is equal with the Business Case in PMBOK. It consists of very high-level project definition, strategy, and justification. During project planning, PEP is used as the very important input in developing the Project Management Plan.

They are often used interchangeably, along with the term SEMP or Systems Engineering Management Plan. Although there are some differences from a theoretical level, in a practical sense they are often the same as virtually nobody ever follows the strict textbook definitions.

There is the term of Project Execution Plan (PEP) in PMBOK. In some of my clients, PEP is equal with the Business Case in PMBOK. It consists of very high-level project definition, strategy, and justification. During project planning, PEP is used as the very important input in developing the Project Management Plan.

Gentlemen-
Frankly speaking, I fail to understand ll the confusion here. This question pops up under the Construction Category!
In my opinion, EVERY Construction Project Manager is familiar with and utilizes these plans.
The Project Management Plan details all the Plans and actions you plan to take during the course of the Project. It includes (but is not limited to) the Stakeholder Management Plan, Communication Plan, Procurement Plan, Quality Plan, Change Management Plan, Document Control Plan, Re-design Management Plan, Project EXECUTION Plan, Schedule Management Plan, SAFETY Plan, Project Controls Plan.
Most Project Managers in the Construction Industry are very familiar with all the Tasks, Work Packages, Personnel, and Processes required to fulfill the Project, and they simply lay these out in a comprehensive text format. The Individual Department heads usually contribute (PQP, Safety, Etc.).
These detailed plans can usually be whipped up in 5-10 working days after, or just prior to mobilization or Contract Execution- I have produced the "Plan" during my first 2 weeks on site, with little input.
The Project Execution Plan is usually limited to your Field execution staff job descriptions, and descriptions of how they will perform their tasks, including reporting.
