Challenges for PM/Scrum master while working at client place

If you are implementing Scrum as is then there should not be any problem because you work based on agreed scope. Follow the Scrum guidelines and handle the client if they want to deviate from the discussed and frozen requirements for that Sprint. Quite often you will face this problem only that client asks you to implement certain other things which were not earlier discussed for the current sprint. If you can manage that then all other problems like resource, availability of stakeholders, etc. can be managed by proactive steps. Thanks.

It shouldn't matter whether it is internal or external team members as a Scrum Master operates without authority and facilitates rather than dictates. If anything, an external Scrum Master might have greater influence in getting impediments resolved by key stakeholders as often times greater emphasis is placed on the recommendations of an outsider than internal staff.

The challenge will be in establishing positive relationships quickly with team members and key stakeholders as well as understanding the organizational context and any specific standards or policies within the company. However, the same challenges would apply to an external PM...
