Saira -

I've never heard that term used before - what is being donated? If it is funding, then sponsor might be a more commonly used term.

Thank you all,

It is a term used for some international projects. I am looking for a term to describe an entity that suggest projects for countries in common, say the Caribbean. An international agency would be promoting waste management and so write a project to fund several countries for an teh execution of an approved methodology to dispose of waste. Such agency is also the project sponsor as they manage the money and timescale for activities. Countries expressing interest of participation would nominate an local agency to complete the activities and report back to this international agency. I wanted a term to describe this entity as equipment can be acquired under these arrangements. I wanted to state that we got equipment from a "project donor" hence the term being used.

Saira,
You used two different words there which causes some confusion. One is an entity that "suggests projects", and another that is an agency that sponsors projects.

The international agency would be a Project Sponsor in PMI terms. Reading your question I am not sure whether you are looking for the term of an entity within the international agency, that suggests the right projects to the board of directors.

The description seems like An entity that comes up with the project idea like a business visionary or sponsor and who also funds these activities. "Project Sponsor" seems to be the most apt term aligning to PMI. In this case it is not an individual but an agency or a "body" of people. But it's still the Sponsoring Entity.

Saira I think I understand what you are trying to say but I do not think that there is a specific word or terminology for it. It might just be an external stakeholder who contributes towards the project by providing additional resources and/or complete some deliverables. So I would use a simple term like External Stakeholder.

Just to add, in International Development, just the term "Donor" is also used so it refers to the agency as a whole

You will find this term when you work with NGO's who does development projects in third world countries. Check the PMD Guide for the PM4NGO's, it is very useful in this regards.

Most of those project depends on donors.
