Our local chapter has a lot of promotional events for training courses.
I also noticed courses for certifications that are not PM related.

Is it ethical to endorse a certain training provider?

Some chapters sign agreements with training companies to promote their courses in website and the chapter receives funding from them to improve chapter services. That is fair.

The problem is when the board of directors have direct relationship with the training company. That can be a conflict of interest if they promote one company over the rest of them.

On the other hand, because of chapter board of directors are volunteers and are not paid, sometimes there are situations where you can see people involved trying to do business taking advantage of their position. I think it´s something assumed by PMI.

Hi Stelian Roman,
PMI Chapters can and do offer training to their local communities. We encourage chapters to conduct a fair and equitable process by issuing an RFP to training providers in order to facilitate training needs for the local community. PMI has policies about the use of member and customer data that need to be honored and protected. If you are experiencing a questionable situation with your local chapter, feel free to contact me directly.

@Brantlee. I don't see any issue with PMI chapters facilitating training if the process is fair and equitable and especially if there is value in the training. It is also fair if PMI Directors promote themselves but I have difficulties to accept that they can promote their businesses through PMI chapters. I am old enough to realise that in life 'there is no free lunch' but I know many people that volunteer juts for the joy of giving back to the community, without any monetary benefits or compensation.
