Is it ethical for chapters to promote training companies?

Our local chapter has a lot of promotional events for training courses.
I also noticed courses for certifications that are not PM related.

Is it ethical to endorse a certain training provider?

Chapters are supposed to follow an unbiased approach to selecting training partners for their members and certainly should not be endorsing them.

Ethical/unethical or legal.illegal? We should refer to their guidelines and related law, regulation if any. Lots of factors need to be considered in case of ethical or unethical.

Agree with Abolfazi that it depends on the situation, it could be illegal or unethical, or none of both.
There are chapters promoting training providers based on a sponsor or advertising agreement. Can be an important income source to serve members.
One ethical aspect is if that 'endorsement' is fair to all of the providers and if that is honestly and transparently shared.

While I agree with my colleagues, I do not see what it is unethical if the local chapter vetted those training companies to be good ones.

I won't call vetted the fact that the trainers have chapter roles.

I have the same dilemma with any chapter board member that uses PMI to promote his business. I may be wrong but PMI chapters should be like a Guild rather than a business avenue. I don't see anything wrong with a PM connecting with a potential client at the PMI meetings but I have difficulties understanding why practitioners are in minority over trainers, speakers and recruiters in a PM professional group.

I think they have times, their main job is to find listeners, learners and job candidates (in case of recruiters) so chapter or any comminity is a fertile plot for them to advertize their image and their own business beside their hobby of knowledge sharing (May be). If chapter leaders have their own business then you see, sooner or later, people will leave or no one want to join.

I don't have a problem with helping job seekers as a free service but after a meeting I was called by the event organiser and asked if I can hire some graduates. At least he was honest and mentioned his 15% commission. I just don't feel that this is right. I agree with developing personal business relations while volunteering but using PMI as an advertising vehicle for your business seems unethical.
That's why I didn't renew my membership.

That's tricky question, because I saw chapter board member that uses the local chapter to promote related business... I like to think that they are selecting the best for the chapter members....but not sure.
