Colleagues,
Let's share experiences in this regard..
Which motivation techniques you used during running your project(s) and which one was successful? Share lessons learnt also.

Team members need a certain level of self motivation and being a self starter, however I feel strongly that as a leader and Project Manager we have a responsibility to help our teams get there. Start with why you are executing the project at hand, how much impact the team will have on the organization and then provide praise where praise is due. Celebrate small wins. Acknowledge when times get tough. Sometimes the simplest things will be the most impactful in keeping a project team motivated.

Depending on the circumstances you may praise the work done by a particular team, praise the collaboration of a single person, culture may influence the techniques you can use, but most likely having the human / empathy will work better (just my humble opinion). There are multiple gurus that studied this field and can find resources online... Hope you find what you are looking for and motivate peers

On one occasion I managed a project, where there were many economic difficulties, and that prevented motivation with some "bonus" or monetary benefit. The situation in that country where I was executing the project was and is very complicated, so how did I motivate the staff? The strategies I used were to listen constantly to the team, meetings once a week, where I considered the external situations of the project that I could affect their performance, although I could not do much, the mere fact of being able to listen to them, made them feel good. Another point was to take into account some ideas they had, and tell the rest of the team who had been the creator of such a novel idea. Finally when it was possible, he gave them a few free hours before finishing the day, when the performance of the team was exceptional.

Always Thank you is a simple appreciation for the team work helps and it helped me leading the team for the successful completion of any tasks. sometimes I notice people do not get appreciated for the hard work or their contribution in the project which is a frustration factor . if collocated team go for a tea or coffee once a week with team ..if virtual send a thank you notes .
